5th February - Charity Seminar on Social Media
Aware that many charities from different causes were eager to engage and learn more about responsible social networking and in particular Twitter, we organised and hosted a completely free one day seminar in the boardroom at Festival House. Delegates, who came from all over the country, listened intently to several presentations including one from BPE Solicitors LLP who are members of the Charity Law Association. They gave advice on legal issues to be aware of including copyright infringement, cyber-squatting and damage to reputation which all those attending found exceptionally valuable.
Mike Payton of TAP Business Development created an excellent course on the subject of Twitter - from setting up a page, connecting with followers, adding pictures, geotagging, and Twitterquette! After a buffet lunch this was followed by a seminar on Innov8ive SEO and effective organic search engine optimisation with the emphasis on how to keep a site active and therefore enhancing search engine rankings. One way to do this is to incorporate your Twitter feed or blog within your website!
All those attending were at varying stages of using social networking tools which was advantageous especially whilst networking with each other and during Q & A sessions with the presenters.
Delegates were asked for topics they would like to hear about in future seminars and they included Data Protection and marketing techniques which they are eager to attend.
As well as our AniLog Animal Welfare charity clients we also invited other charity organisations to attend as our guests. Since the event two of the charities have now set up their Twitter site which has been really gratifying for all those involved as it has enabled them to engage with a new and wider community.
February 2010 - Charity Twitter Seminar
Innov8ive Software are currently putting the final features together for a completely free seminar for charities to attend. The seminar is primarily aimed at charities who want to learn more about social networking and in particular Twitter - from setting up an account, finding followers and fundraising. Iain Garfield and John Murphy of BPE will be attending and one topic they will be discussing are legal issues surrounding the use of social networking in general. Places are limited to two attendees per charity and there are still a few places available. This is not limited to animal welfare organisations and we are pleased that many local national charities have also booked to attend. For further information please phone Christina on 01242 633611.

Martin Horwood MP was invited by Christina Johnston, Business Development Director of Innov8ive Software to be guest speaker at a network event she hosted at Festival House. The quarterly women's network meeting was launched early in 2009 by Coutts and over 30 guests attended - companies represented included Coutts, BPE, Von Essen Hotels, Hills Design, Gusto and Beards to name just a few. Martin chose the subject "Why you should stand for Parliament" - a wonderful insight into the history of women in politics and giving his favourite quote from Rebecca West - it can be found on his Facebook page!
George Sherratt, Technical Director of Innov8ive Software introduced Innov8ive Technical Consultant, Chris Newton, who gave a well prepared and received presentation on the importance of SEO and that this should be a priority before building a new website or even when choosing the URL. Research has shown that over 90% of people use search engines to look for what they want and 84% of those won't click past the second results page! The overview also covered Keyword Analysis, On-page and Off-page techniques, bad SEO techniques and Search Engine Marketing.
